Choosing the right extinguisher class for your site
Fire Safe Australia · 12 May 2026
Picking an extinguisher isn't about grabbing the nearest red bottle — it's about matching the agent to the fire class present on your site.
The fire classes
- Class A — ordinary combustibles (wood, paper).
- Class B — flammable liquids.
- Class E — electrical equipment.
- Class F — cooking oils and fats.
ABE dry powder covers the common A, B and E risks, while CO₂ suits electrical areas and wet chemical is built for commercial kitchens.
